Terms of Service

These terms apply when you use Backgroundoff. Using the site means you accept them. They are written to be read, not to be impressive.

What the service is

Backgroundoff provides tools that run inside your web browser. There is no account and, for the free features, no payment. We may add, change or withdraw tools at any time.

Your files and your rights

You keep every right you already had in the files you process. We claim no licence over them and no ownership of your results — we never receive them, so we could not claim anything even if we wanted to.

You are responsible for having the right to use the images you process. If an image belongs to somebody else, that is between you and them.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use the site to:

• process material that is illegal where you are;
• create images intended to deceive, harass or impersonate a real person;
• attack the site or the people using it — automated abuse, attempts to break the hosting, or anything similar.

Since processing happens on your device, we have no technical way to inspect or block what you do with the tools. That makes this section a matter of your responsibility rather than something we can enforce.

The ad-free purchase

You can pay a one-time fee to hide the advertising on this site. Two things are important to understand before you do:

• The purchase is remembered by your browser, not by an account.Because there is no login, the ad-free setting is stored on the device you bought it on. It does not follow you to another computer or phone, and clearing your browser data removes it.
• It removes ads. It does not remove the site's limitations.The tools work the same way, on your device, with the same model.

If you lose access to your purchase because of the limitation above, write to backgroundoff2026@gmail.com with your order details and we will sort it out. If the purchase is not what you expected, ask for a refund within 30 days and you will get one.

Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record; their terms cover the transaction itself.

Advertising and affiliate links

The free site is paid for by display advertising and by affiliate links. Affiliate links are marked where they appear, and earn us a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. We do not control the products or the companies behind them, and recommending a product is not a guarantee of it.

No warranty

The tools are provided as they are. Automatic background removal is imperfect by nature: it will sometimes keep part of a background or cut into a subject, which is why manual brushes are included. We do not promise any particular quality of result, and we do not promise the site will always be available.

Keep your originals. The tools produce new files; they never modify the file you started with, but a browser tab can still crash mid-way.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from using the site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us, which for most visitors is nothing.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; the date at the top will change when we do. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the new version.
